Sanjay Beach was an undrafted receiver out of Colorado State who spent most of his career on the fringes of NFL rosters, a special-teamer and reserve who bounced between the Jets, Packers and 49ers. He turned up in San Francisco across the early 1990s, just the depth receiver who dresses on game day and hopes for a few snaps.

Madden noticed him exactly once. The game gave Beach a single card, a 36 for the 1993 season, one of the lowest overalls it ever printed, on the old 1-to-15 scale that turned marginal players into rounding errors. It is the only rating he ever received, a fittingly tiny footprint for a player who caught 26 passes in his entire NFL career.

Beach finished with those 26 receptions across parts of several seasons and even spent time in the World League before hanging it up. He was a roster-filler and a special-teams body, the last man on the depth chart at his position. The lone 36 is all Madden ever had to say about him, and for a career this brief, it is enough.
