Bryan Cox was born on February 17, 1968 in East St. Louis, Illinois, played college football at Western Illinois, and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round in 1991, 113th overall. He started 13 games as a rookie outside linebacker. Madden NFL 93 put him at a calculated 43 for the 1992 season, the year he led Miami with 127 tackles, made his first Pro Bowl and was named a first-team All-Pro.
Cox moved to the middle in 1994 and reached the Pro Bowl in that season and the next. Madden NFL 95 put him at a calculated 92 for 1994. Chicago signed him in 1996, and Madden NFL 97 rated him 95 for that season. He joined the New York Jets in 1998 and started at inside linebacker for three years, with Madden NFL 2001 rating him 89 for the 2000 season.
He signed with New England in 2001, played 11 games and won Super Bowl XXXVI. A final season in New Orleans in 2002 closed a career of 165 games, 144 starts, 764 tackles and 51.5 sacks. Cox then coached defensive linemen for the Jets, Browns, Dolphins, Buccaneers, Falcons and Giants. Western Illinois inducted him into its athletics hall of fame in 2008.
