Two 49ers cards, and the Giants years the game skipped
Odessa Turner came out of Northwestern State in Louisiana as a fourth-round pick of the Giants in 1987, and won a Super Bowl ring with New York on the XXV team after the 1990 season, a depth receiver on a champion. He moved to San Francisco for two seasons in 1992 and 1993, and it is only those years the game bothered to rate.
Madden never made a card of his Giants time. It picked him up as a 49er, a 59 for the 1992 season and then a 33 for 1993, one of the lowest overalls on the roster, the number of a receiver near the end of the line catching almost nothing. There was no rise to chart, only the last flicker of a modest career, and the grade recorded it accurately enough.
Turner finished with 97 catches for 1,479 yards across seven NFL seasons, then went north to play in the CFL. He was a role player who happened to be in the right place for a title, just the name only a diehard remembers, and the kind this project is meant to include. Two 49ers cards, a 59 and a 33, are the whole of what Madden saw.
