Tim Grunhard: 164 starts at center for Kansas City

Timothy Gerard Grunhard was born on May 17, 1968 in Chicago and played at St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois. At Notre Dame he started every game of the undefeated 1988 national championship season, including the 31-30 win over Miami at Notre Dame Stadium. Kansas City drafted him in the second round, 40th overall, in 1990. He started nine of his 14 rookie games and made the PFWA All-Rookie Team; Madden NFL 92 carried a calculated 69 for the 1991 season, his first with 16 starts.

He started 12 games in 1992 and then every game of the next seven seasons. Madden NFL 95 carried a calculated 88 for 1994 and Madden NFL 99 a calculated 93 for 1998. He was added to the Pro Bowl roster for the 1999 season on January 11, 2000, after Denver center Tom Nalen withdrew injured; it was his only selection.

He started 15 games in a final season in 2000, for which Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 86. Grunhard played 169 games for the Chiefs, fourth-most by an offensive lineman in franchise history, and started 164, which ranks third. He entered the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, coached Bishop Miege High School to the Kansas 4A title in 2009, spent 2012 and 2013 as offensive line coach at Kansas, and returned to Bishop Miege in 2014.
