Steve DeBerg Madden Career 1992-1999 - Peak 73 OVR

Steve DeBerg was born January 19, 1954 in Oakland, California. He played college football at Fullerton College and San Jose State, where he was the 1976 Pacific Coast Athletic Association offensive player of the year. The Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the tenth round, 275th overall, in 1977 and waived him; San Francisco signed him that September and made him the starter in 1978.

He led the NFL in completions and attempts in 1979 before Joe Montana took the job, moved to Denver in 1981 and lost that job to John Elway, then started for Tampa Bay from 1984. His best season came with Kansas City in 1990: 3,444 yards, 23 touchdowns, four interceptions and a league-low 0.9 interception percentage. Madden NFL 92 listed him at a calculated 73 for the 1991 season, his last in Kansas City.

He returned to Tampa Bay in 1992, where Madden NFL 93 gave him a calculated 62, and split 1993 between the Buccaneers and Miami, where Madden NFL 94 listed a calculated 59. He retired, coached quarterbacks for the New York Giants in 1995 and 1996, then signed with Atlanta in 1998, a season Madden NFL 99 scored at a calculated 69. On October 25, 1998, at age 44, he started against the New York Jets, then the oldest quarterback to start an NFL game. He finished 17 seasons with 34,241 passing yards and 196 touchdowns.
