A rookie left tackle who looked like a ten-year vet
Rashawn Slater opted out of the 2020 college season, and when he showed up in Los Angeles in 2021 he blocked like a man who had never left. The Chargers took the Northwestern product 13th overall, dropped him into the starting lineup at left tackle, and watched him make the Pro Bowl and earn second-team All-Pro honors as a rookie protecting Justin Herbert's blind side.
A ruptured biceps in Week 3 of 2022 cost him most of his second season, but he returned as one of the most technically sound pass protectors in the league. The Chargers made the commitment official in July 2025 with a four-year, $114 million extension that runs through 2029, a statement about how central he is to the offense.
