Derrick Brown was born on April 15, 1998 in Sugar Hill, Georgia, and played at Lanier High School there. At Auburn he won the Lott Trophy and SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019, and Carolina drafted him seventh overall in 2020. He made the PFWA All-Rookie Team after 34 tackles and two sacks, a season Madden NFL 21 rated 78.
Brown took his first career interception off Jameis Winston in Week 3 of 2022. He started all 17 games in 2023 and finished with 103 tackles, 15 quarterback hits and seven tackles for loss, and in January 2024 he was added to the Pro Bowl roster as a replacement for Aaron Donald. Madden NFL 24 rated him 84 for 2023.
He signed a four-year, $96 million extension in April 2024, then tore the meniscus in his knee in Week 1 and went on injured reserve after one game, a season Madden NFL 25 rated 90. He started all 17 games in 2025 with 73 tackles and a career-high five sacks, rated 95 by Madden NFL 26. Through the 2025 season he had 321 tackles and 13 sacks in 84 games.
