Xavien Howard was born on July 4, 1993 in Houston, Texas, played at Baylor, and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round, 38th overall, in 2016. He played seven games as a rookie and started all 16 in 2017. Madden NFL 17 listed him at 72 for the 2016 season and Madden NFL 18 at 74 for 2017.
He intercepted seven passes in 12 games in 2018 to lead the NFL, made his first Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro. Miami signed him to a five-year extension in May 2019 that made him the highest-paid cornerback in the league at the time. Madden NFL 20 put him at 83 for the 2019 season, which ended after five games.
Howard intercepted 10 passes in 2020, the most by any NFL player since 2007, also led the league in passes defensed and was named first-team All-Pro. Madden NFL 22 listed him at 91 for 2021, his highest figure. Pro Bowls followed in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and Madden NFL 24 put him at 84 for 2023, his last season in Miami. He missed 2024 with a Lisfranc injury, signed with Indianapolis, and retired in October 2025 with 29 interceptions in 104 games.
