Devonta Freeman came out of Florida State a national champion and a fourth-round afterthought, the 103rd pick in 2014. Within two years he was the engine of Atlanta's offense. In 2015 he ran for 1,056 yards, led the NFL with 11 rushing touchdowns, caught 73 passes, and piled up 1,634 yards from scrimmage, back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons that made him one of the most valuable backs in the game.

He scored the first touchdown of Super Bowl LI and finished that night with 75 rushing yards and 46 receiving, though the Falcons let a 28-3 lead slip into a 34-28 overtime loss to New England. In 2017 Atlanta made him the highest-paid running back in the league on a five-year, $41.25 million extension. Concussions, a knee, and groin surgery then chipped away at the rest of his career.
