Xavier Rhodes was born June 19, 1990 in Miami, Florida, played college football at Florida State, where he was named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round, 25th overall, in 2013. He started six of his 13 games as a rookie, and Madden NFL 25 listed him at 74 for that season. He started all 16 games in 2015, a season for which Madden NFL 16 listed him at 86.

In 2016 he intercepted five passes, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown against Arizona on November 20, the longest interception return in Vikings history, and he was selected to his first Pro Bowl. He returned to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and was named first-team All-Pro, finishing fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting as Minnesota reached the NFC Championship Game. Madden NFL 19 listed him at 92 for the 2018 season, his highest figure.

Rhodes made a third Pro Bowl in 2019. Minnesota released him in March 2020 after seven seasons, and he played 2020 and 2021 with Indianapolis. Madden NFL 21 listed him at 74 for the 2020 season, matching his rookie figure. He played two games for Buffalo in 2022 and finished with 13 interceptions, 92 passes defensed and 457 tackles in 135 games.
