Joseph Randle was an All-Big 12 runner Dallas took in the fifth round in 2013 to back up DeMarco Murray. When Murray left, Randle opened 2015 as the lead back, starting the first six games and leading the team's runners in rushing touchdowns.

Madden climbed him from a 69 to a 75 by the 2016 edition as he stepped in, but an injury and a demotion cut into it, and Dallas waived him that November, ending his NFL career at twenty-three. What followed had nothing to do with football, a series of arrests, a conviction, and serious mental-health struggles that led to hospitalization, a genuinely sad story that deserves to be told soberly. He finished with 822 rushing yards and real promise cut short.
