DeVonte Holloman Madden Career 2014-2015 - Peak 66 OVR

DeVonte Holloman was a hybrid safety-linebacker at South Carolina, a sixth-round pick of Dallas in 2013 the team converted to full-time linebacker. He flashed real promise as a rookie, returning a preseason interception 75 yards for a touchdown and, once healthy after a spine contusion cost him time, starting three games and posting eleven tackles and two sacks in the finale against Philadelphia.

The Madden card only had one real season to work with, and it shows. It peaked at a 66 in Madden NFL 15, a season he never played, the grade projecting a young linebacker the field would not let develop. The number was built on a promising rookie flash and nothing more, because what came next ended everything.

In a 2014 preseason game against Baltimore he suffered a neck injury, and doctors diagnosed cervical spinal stenosis, a condition serious enough that he retired that August rather than risk his health, his career over at twenty-three. He moved into high school coaching. Holloman is one of the sadder what-ifs, a genuinely promising young player forced to stop by a condition no amount of talent could overcome.
