The younger Trufant who locked down Atlanta's boundary
Cornerback runs in the family. Desmond Trufant grew up watching older brother Marcus start for a decade in Seattle, then carved out his own name after Atlanta took him 22nd overall in the 2013 draft out of Washington. He stepped in as a rookie starter, made the PFWA All-Rookie team, and gave the Falcons a smooth, patient man-cover corner who mirrored routes instead of grabbing.
His best stretch came around the middle of the decade, capped by a 2017 afternoon when he scooped a Vic Beasley strip-sack and ran it back 15 yards for a score to earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week. A shoulder injury that required surgery cut short his 2016 and kept him out of the Falcons' Super Bowl LI run. Madden started him modestly at 77 in the 2013 edition, bumped him to 90 in both 2015 and 2016, and topped him out at 93 in the 2018 game. The number faded to 79 by 2021 as he bounced from Detroit to New Orleans to Las Vegas. He finished with 14 career interceptions.
