Doug Martin was born on January 13, 1989 in Oakland, California, played at Boise State, where a teammate gave him the nickname Muscle Hamster, and went to Tampa Bay with the 31st pick of the 2012 draft. On November 4, 2012 he ran for 251 yards and four touchdowns at Oakland, with scoring runs of 1, 45, 67 and 70 yards in a 42-32 win. Madden NFL 13 listed him at 76 for that rookie season.

Martin finished 2012 with 1,454 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl, and Madden NFL 25 followed with a 90 for the 2013 season. Injuries held him to six games in 2013 and 11 in 2014. He ran for 1,402 yards in 2015, second in the NFL, made a second Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press, a season Madden NFL 16 listed at 78.

Madden NFL 17 put him at 90 for 2016, a year in which he played eight games. He appeared in 11 games in 2017 and spent 2018 with Oakland, rushing for 723 yards in 16 games. Across seven seasons he ran for 5,356 yards and 30 touchdowns. Martin died on October 18, 2025, at the age of 36.
