Oklahoma's tackle machine who led two franchises in stops
Curtis Lofton left Oklahoma as the 2007 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after piling up 157 tackles his final season, and the Falcons grabbed him 37th overall in the second round of the 2008 draft. He never eased in. As a rookie he put up 94 tackles and walked off with Pro Football Weekly's Defensive Rookie of the Year award, then anchored the middle of Atlanta's defense for four seasons and led the team in tackles year in.
In 2012 he signed a five-year deal with New Orleans worth up to $27.5 million and immediately racked up 123 tackles, doing the same job for a division rival. He finished his career with a 2015 stint in Oakland before retiring in 2017.
His Madden trajectory follows the same climb. He entered as an 81 overall in the 2008 edition, dipped a hair to 80 in 2009, then jumped to 88 in the 2010 game and topped out at 90 across both the 2011 and 2012 editions. The number slid back to the low 80s and eventually a 79 in the 2015 edition as his final seasons wound down.
