Undersized at 5-11, and the NFL's 2009 sack leader

Scouts kept coming back to Elvis Dumervil's size. At 5-11 he was supposed to be too short to bend the edge in the NFL, which is why Denver got him in the fourth round of the 2006 draft out of Louisville. Then in 2009 he led the entire league with 17 sacks and was a near-unanimous All-Pro, drawing 46 of a possible 50 votes. Leverage, quickness, and a low center of gravity did what height charts said he could not.

His Madden line reflects the spike: a modest 75 in the 2006 edition, a curious dip to 65 in the 2009 game, then a leap to 93 in the 2010 version after that monster season. He made five Pro Bowls. In 2013 a paperwork blunder, his agent faxing a restructured deal six minutes past the deadline, cost him his spot in Denver, and he moved on to Baltimore. He retired fifth on the Broncos' all-time sack list, an undersized rusher who spent a career embarrassing bigger tackles.
