The blocking back who cleared road for Lewis, Hillis and Foster

Cleveland grabbed Lawrence Vickers in the sixth round in 2006, 180th overall, and the Colorado fullback spent a decade making other men's stat lines look good. In 2007 he started 14 games and led the way for Jamal Lewis, who ran for 1,304 yards and nine touchdowns, and Vickers landed as a Pro Bowl alternate at fullback.

He kept finding backs to spring loose. He blocked for Peyton Hillis during the bruising 1,177-yard 2010 season in Cleveland, then followed to Houston in 2011 and cleared lanes for Arian Foster, and closed his career with the Cowboys in 2012 and 2013 alongside DeMarco Murray. Not a runner or receiver of note, he made his living hunting linebackers.

His Madden line reflects a rare thing, a highly rated fullback. He opened at 82 in the 2007 edition and jumped to a 92 in the 2008 game after that Lewis season, then held at 88 and climbed back to 90 in the 2011 edition once he was paving for Foster. The rating dropped into the 70s by 2012 as his role and the position itself faded.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
