Luis Castillo Madden Career 2006-2012 - Peak 93 OVR

Luis Castillo was the first player of Dominican heritage ever drafted into the NFL, taken 28th overall by San Diego in 2005 out of Northwestern. He arrived with a complication. He had admitted to using androstenedione before the combine while rehabbing a torn elbow ligament, and the Chargers spent a first-round pick on him anyway, with general manager A.J. Smith calling him a great kid. He rewarded them by becoming a stout, disruptive end in San Diego's 3-4, clogging lanes beside nose tackle Jamal Williams and helping anchor a strong run defense. Injuries chipped away at him, and a broken leg in the 2011 opener ended that season and hastened the close of his career after 2012.

Madden charted his rise and plateau. He entered at 80 in the 2005 edition, jumped to 92 in the 2007 edition, and topped out at 93 in the 2008 edition as he hit his stride. From there the card drifted down with the injuries, sitting at 81 by the 2012 edition.
