Chargers edge rusher with 81.5 sacks over 11 seasons
Shaun Phillips was born on May 13, 1981 in Philadelphia, set Purdue's career sack record with 33.5, and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of 2004, 98th overall. He played all 16 games as a rookie without a start and had four sacks. Madden NFL 05 listed him at 65 for the 2004 season.
He moved into the starting lineup in 2006 opposite Shawne Merriman and recorded 11.5 sacks, the most of any season in his career. Madden NFL 07 put him at 78 for 2006 and Madden NFL 08 at 86 for 2007, a year he had 8.5 sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown. Madden NFL 09 listed him at 92 for the 2008 season, the highest figure of his career.
In 2010 Phillips had 11 sacks, four of them against Arizona in Week 4 along with a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown, and he was selected to the only Pro Bowl of his career. Madden NFL 11 listed him at 91 for that season. He signed with Denver in 2013, recorded 10 sacks and played in Super Bowl XLVIII. He split 2014 between Indianapolis and Tennessee and finished with 81.5 sacks in 168 games, 69.5 of them for the Chargers.
