Roy Williams was born on December 20, 1981 in Odessa, Texas and played at Permian High School. He was a consensus All-American at Texas in 2002 and 2003 and left the school as its career leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Detroit drafted him seventh overall in 2004, and he started 12 of his 14 games as a rookie. Madden NFL 05 rated him 83 for 2004.
In 2006 he caught 82 passes for 1,310 yards and seven touchdowns and was selected to the Pro Bowl, the only such selection of his career. Madden NFL 07 rated him 88 for 2006, and Madden NFL 08 rated him 92 for 2007. Detroit traded him to Dallas in October 2008 for first-, third- and sixth-round draft picks, and he played five games for the Lions and ten for the Cowboys that season.
Williams caught 94 passes across three seasons in Dallas, and Madden NFL 11 rated him 82 for 2010. The Cowboys released him on July 29, 2011, and Chicago signed him the following day. He started nine of 15 games for the Bears in what became his last season. He finished with 393 receptions for 5,715 yards and 44 touchdowns in 115 games.
