Ken Walter Madden Career 1999-2004 - Peak 89 OVR

Ken Walter went undrafted out of Kent State, punted four seasons for Carolina, and found his place in New England, where his real value showed up on the ground. As the holder for Adam Vinatieri, Walter set the spot for the 48-yard kick that won Super Bowl XXXVI as time expired, and he earned a second ring when the Patriots took Super Bowl XXXVIII two years later.

His 2002 Madden edition carries an 89, a surprisingly gaudy number for a punter and the high point of his run of cards. The job was never fully secure. Walter struggled badly in 2003, was released midseason, then re-signed once his replacement faltered, and he hung on through the championship run. He belongs to a long line of Kent State special-teamers, the same program that later sent Julian Edelman to the same Patriots dynasty.
