Alan Campos was a productive linebacker at Louisville, more than 200 tackles across his last two college seasons, just the college tackling machine that earns a Day Three flier. Dallas took him in the fifth round in 1996 and gave him a special-teams role on a defense that did not need another linebacker, the standard path for a mid-round prospect trying to stick.

Madden gave him exactly one card, and it is a fair one for a rookie project. His Madden NFL 97 entry sits at a 61, built on a decent 72 agility next to a 10 block-shedding rating that says everything about a young linebacker who could run but could not yet get off blocks. There was no second card because there was no second act in Dallas, the single grade freezing him at the raw stage he never got to grow out of.

The NFL never really opened up. Campos played fifteen games across his Cowboys time, recorded a single career tackle, and drifted through camps in Indianapolis and Carolina, NFL Europe with the Scottish Claymores, and Arena ball, then coached high school in Arizona. His is the most common football story there is, a good college player who got a real chance and could not quite make the jump, remembered here by one lonely Madden card and one line in the tackle column.
