Eddie Robinson Jr.: Alabama State walk-on, 805 NFL tackles

Edward Joseph Robinson Jr. was born on April 13, 1970 in New Orleans and graduated from Brother Martin High School in 1988. He went to Alabama State on an academic scholarship, walked on to the football team, played offensive guard before moving to linebacker and took SWAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1990 and 1991. The Houston Oilers drafted him in the second round, 50th overall, in 1992.

Robinson started 11 games as a rookie and 15 in 1993, a season for which Madden NFL 94 carried a calculated 86. He spent four years in Houston, then two in Jacksonville in 1996 and 1997; Madden NFL 97 listed him at 72 for the first of those. He rejoined the franchise as the Tennessee Oilers in 1998 and started at left linebacker, and he started Super Bowl XXXIV on January 30, 2000, a 23-16 loss to St. Louis.

He started all 16 games at right linebacker in 2000, his most productive season, and Madden NFL 2001 rated him 87. Madden NFL 03 listed him at 73 for 2002, his one year in Buffalo and his last as a player. Robinson finished with 805 tackles, 23 sacks, six interceptions and one touchdown, and was hired as Alabama State's head coach on November 26, 2021. He is not related to the Grambling State coach of the same name.
