Jay Novacek was a track-and-field athlete at Wyoming, a decathlete's build on a tight end's frame, and he did not become a star until his second NFL stop. Drafted in the sixth round by the Cardinals in 1985, he spent five quiet years there before signing with Dallas as a Plan B free agent in 1990, where he turned into Troy Aikman's most trusted target.
