The Vikings moved down in the first round of the 2021 draft and still landed the tackle they wanted, taking Virginia Tech's Christian Darrisaw 23rd overall. He walked in with light, quiet feet and the frame to match, and within two seasons he was one of the best trusted young pass protectors in the NFC, guarding the quarterback's blind side with a calm that belied his age.
His Madden number rose about as fast as any lineman's can. He entered as a 71 in the 2021 edition, jumped to an 85 by 2023, and reached a 92 in the 2025 game, a rare rating for a tackle still on his rookie-scale timeline. Minnesota bet on the trajectory in July 2024 with a four-year extension worth up to $113 million.
That same season tested him. In Week 8 against the Rams, Darrisaw tore his ACL and MCL and was ruled out for the year, a serious knee injury for a player the Vikings have built their line around. The rating held at 92 in the following edition, a vote of confidence that the feet and the technique will come back.
