In Week 7 of 2020, D.K. Metcalf turned a Seahawks interception into a legend by sprinting the length of the field to catch Budda Baker at the 8-yard line, hitting a tracked top speed of 22.64 mph and saving a touchdown. That blend of 6-foot-4 size and 4.33 speed had made him a curiosity coming out of Ole Miss, where a neck injury and a bare stat sheet let him fall to the 64th pick in 2019 after Seattle traded back into the second round.

He made them look foolish fast. As a rookie he set the record for receiving yards by a first-year player in a playoff game with 160 against Philadelphia, then posted 1,303 yards in 2020 to break the Seahawks single-season mark. Two Pro Bowls followed, in 2020 and 2023.

Madden tracked the leap from prospect to problem. He debuted at 76 in the 2019 edition, bumped to 79 for 2020, then jumped to 89 in both the 2021 and 2022 games. The rating eased to the mid-80s as the numbers dipped, and in March 2025 Seattle traded him to Pittsburgh with a five-year, $150 million deal attached.
