Marvin Jones was born on March 12, 1990, in Long Beach, California, and caught 156 passes for 2,270 yards at California from 2008 to 2011. The Cincinnati Bengals selected him in the fifth round of the 2012 draft with the 166th pick. In Week 8 of the 2013 season he caught eight passes for 122 yards and four touchdowns against the New York Jets, a Bengals single-game record; Madden NFL 25 rated that season 70.
Ankle and foot injuries kept Jones out of every game in 2014, and he was placed on injured reserve on October 14 of that year. He returned in 2015 with 65 receptions for 816 yards, then signed a five-year contract with the Detroit Lions in March 2016 and gained 930 yards, a season Madden NFL 17 rated 82. He led the NFL with 18.0 yards per reception in 2017 and totalled 1,101 yards, rated 84 in Madden NFL 18.
A knee injury ended his 2018 season after nine games. He scored nine touchdowns in 2019 and set a career high of 76 receptions in 2020, for 978 yards, a season Madden NFL 21 rated 85. Jones spent 2021 and 2022 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and returned to Detroit for six games in 2023. He finished with 547 receptions for 7,421 yards and 58 touchdowns in 151 games.
