Everson Griffen was born December 22, 1987, in Avondale, Arizona, attended Agua Fria High School and played college football at USC. Minnesota drafted him in the fourth round, 100th overall, in 2010. He made one start in his first four seasons, working as a rotational pass rusher and on special teams, and Madden NFL 11 listed him at 70 for 2010 and Madden NFL 12 at 67 for 2011.

He became a full-time starter in 2014 and recorded 12 sacks, was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for October and returned a blocked punt 43 yards for a touchdown. Madden NFL 16 listed him at 89 for 2015, a season of 10.5 sacks and his first Pro Bowl. He had 13 sacks in 2017, a career high, and was named second-team Associated Press All-Pro and made a third straight Pro Bowl.

He missed five games in 2018 while undergoing a mental health evaluation and returned in Week 8, finishing with 5.5 sacks in 11 games, and Madden NFL 19 listed him at 92 for that season, his highest. He had eight sacks in 2019 and a fourth Pro Bowl selection, then split 2020 between Dallas and Detroit and returned to Minnesota for nine games in 2021. He finished with 85.5 sacks in 170 games.
