Demaryius Thomas was born on December 25, 1987, in Montrose, Georgia, played college football at Georgia Tech, and was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 22nd pick in 2010. He caught 22 passes for 283 yards as a rookie, and Madden NFL 11 listed him at 74 for the 2010 season. In January 2012 he took a Tim Tebow pass 80 yards for a touchdown on the first snap of overtime, beating Pittsburgh 29-23 in a wild card game.

In 2012 he had 94 receptions for 1,434 yards and ten touchdowns, and Madden NFL 13 rated him 81 for that year. He topped 1,000 receiving yards in each season from 2012 through 2016, made five Pro Bowls and was a second-team Associated Press All-Pro in 2013 and 2014. His 111 catches for 1,619 yards in 2014 set the Denver single-season record, and Madden NFL 15 put him at 93 for that season.

His 13 catches in the Super Bowl XLVIII loss to Seattle were a Super Bowl record until James White caught 14 in Super Bowl LI. Thomas won Super Bowl 50 against Carolina, and Madden NFL 17 listed him at 87 for the 2016 season. Denver traded him to Houston during 2018, and he played 11 games for the Jets in 2019. He finished with 724 receptions for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns in 143 games. Thomas died on December 9, 2021, at age 33, and was inducted into the Broncos Ring of Fame in 2025.
