Vernon Davis was born on January 31, 1984 in Washington, D.C., played college football at Maryland, and was selected sixth overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2006 draft. He started eight of the ten games he played as a rookie, a season for which Madden NFL 07 rated him 86. In 2009 he caught 78 passes for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns, co-leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns, and made his first Pro Bowl.

Madden NFL 11 rated him 96 for the 2010 season. On January 14, 2012 he caught a 14-yard touchdown from Alex Smith with nine seconds left to beat New Orleans 36-32 in a divisional playoff game. He started all 16 games in 2012, a season for which Madden NFL 13 rated him 95, and made a second Pro Bowl for 2013.

San Francisco traded him to Denver on November 2, 2015, and he won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos that February. Madden NFL 16 rated him 84 for 2015. He signed with Washington in 2016 and played there through 2019, when a concussion ended his season. Davis finished with 583 receptions for 7,562 yards and 63 touchdowns, and retired in February 2020.
