Matt Leinart was born May 11, 1983, in Santa Ana, California. He quarterbacked USC to a 13-0 season in 2004 and won the Heisman Trophy that year, finishing college with 10,693 passing yards. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him 10th overall in 2006, and Madden NFL 07 listed him at 81 for his rookie season.
Leinart replaced Kurt Warner as the starter in the fourth game of 2006 and made 11 starts, throwing for 2,547 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He passed for 405 yards against Minnesota on November 26, 2006, then a record for a rookie. He opened 2007 as the starter, but a fractured left collarbone against St. Louis on October 7 ended his season after five starts. Warner won the job back in the 2008 preseason, a season for which Madden NFL 09 rated Leinart 85.
He backed up Warner again in 2009, a season Madden NFL 10 listed at 68. Arizona released him in September 2010, and Houston signed him two days later, though he did not play that year. He fractured a collarbone in his only 2011 start, against Jacksonville. Oakland signed him in May 2012 as Carson Palmer's backup, and Madden NFL 13 listed him at 73. He finished with 4,065 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in 33 games. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on December 5, 2017.
