Darren Sproles stood 5-foot-6 and outran the game's math. Kansas State's all-time leading rusher, he lasted until the fourth round in 2005, 130th overall, and the Chargers found a weapon in space. On November 11, 2007, he became the first player to return both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns in the same game.

His best year came in New Orleans in 2011, when he racked up 2,696 all-purpose yards, still the single-season record. Traded to Philadelphia in 2014, he made three straight Pro Bowls from 2014 through 2016 and won a ring in Super Bowl LII over the Patriots, though injury limited him to three games that season. He retired sixth in NFL history with 19,696 career all-purpose yards.

Madden watched the value compound. He sat at 72 in the 2005 and 2006 editions as a change-of-pace back, rose to 85 by the 2009 game, and reached a peak 89 in the 2012 edition after the record-setting Saints year. The number stayed at 87 for 2013 and 2014 before gently declining through his Eagles finale.
