Hunter Hillenmeyer was born on October 28, 1980 in Nashville, Tennessee, played college football at Vanderbilt, and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round, 166th overall, in 2003. Green Bay waived him on September 10, 2003, and the Chicago Bears signed him to their practice squad three days later, promoting him to the active roster on October 2. He played 13 games as a rookie without a start, and Madden NFL 04 rated that season an 89.
Hillenmeyer started 11 games at strongside linebacker in 2004 and recorded 2.5 sacks, after which Madden NFL 05 dropped him to 65. He started 13 games for the 2006 Bears team that lost Super Bowl XLI, and Madden NFL 07 rated that season a 79.
Brian Urlacher's wrist injury ended his 2009 season in Week 1, and Hillenmeyer moved to middle linebacker, recording 90 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interception and four forced fumbles; Madden NFL 10 rated that season a 68. He sustained a concussion in the 2010 season opener against Detroit, went on injured reserve on September 14, and did not play again. Chicago released him on February 28, 2011. He finished with 101 games, 396 combined tackles and 7.0 sacks.
