Grady Jackson Madden Career 1999-2010 - Peak 89 OVR
A 340-pound wall who clogged the middle for six teams
Grady Jackson arrived from Knoxville College, a tiny NAIA school, as a sixth-round afterthought of the 1997 Raiders, and turned roughly 340 pounds into a long career as an interior wall. A nose tackle by trade, he plugged the middle for six franchises: Oakland through 2001, then New Orleans, Green Bay, Atlanta, a stop in Jacksonville, and Detroit.
His prime came in Green Bay, where he anchored the run defense for Brett Favre's mid-2000s teams, and in Atlanta, where he led the league in tackles for loss in 2006. Offenses simply could not move him, and double teams were the cost of doing business.
Madden's numbers tracked the peak neatly. The 2000 edition already had him at 81, and after a dip to 71 in 2001 he surged to 89 in both the 2004 and 2005 releases, his Green Bay heyday. The rating held in the 80s through his Atlanta run, an 84 as late as the 2008 edition, before fading to 76 in 2009. A failed drug test late in 2008 drew an NFL review near the end of his time in the league.
