Jim Everett was born January 3, 1963, in Emporia, Kansas, and started two seasons at Purdue, throwing for 3,651 yards in 1985 and finishing sixth in Heisman voting. The Houston Oilers took him third overall in the 1986 draft but never signed him, trading him to the Los Angeles Rams on September 18, 1986 for two players and three draft picks.
He led the NFL with 31 touchdown passes in 1988 and 29 in 1989. He threw for 315 yards and two scores, including a 30-yard overtime winner to Flipper Anderson, in a 19-13 divisional playoff win at the Giants on January 7, 1990, then completed 16 of 36 passes with three interceptions in a 30-3 NFC Championship loss at San Francisco a week later. His only Pro Bowl followed the 1990 season, and Madden NFL 92 put him at a calculated 72 for 1991.
Madden NFL 94 scored the 1993 season, his last in Los Angeles, at a calculated 69. The Rams traded him to New Orleans in March 1994, and on April 6 that year he pushed host Jim Rome to the floor during an interview on ESPN2's Talk2. Madden NFL 96 gave his 1995 season a calculated 79. He signed with San Diego in June 1997 and played his final NFL game on October 16, 1997, finishing with 34,837 passing yards, 203 touchdowns and 175 interceptions.
