Jay Schroeder Madden Career 1992-1994 - Peak 59 OVR

Jay Schroeder was born June 28, 1961 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and played college football at UCLA. The Toronto Blue Jays took him third overall in the 1979 Major League Baseball draft and he spent several seasons in their minor league system, then the Washington Redskins selected him in the third round, 83rd overall, of the 1984 NFL draft.

He took over on November 18, 1985 after Joe Theismann broke his leg against the New York Giants, and his first pass went 43 yards to Art Monk. In 1986 he threw for 4,109 yards, a franchise record that stood for 29 years, and was named to the Pro Bowl. A separated shoulder in the 1987 opener let Doug Williams take the job for the playoff run that ended in a Super Bowl XXII win over Denver.

Washington traded him to the Los Angeles Raiders for tackle Jim Lachey in 1988. His best year there was 1990: 2,849 yards, 19 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 12-4 record, ending with five interceptions in a 51-3 AFC Championship Game loss to Buffalo. Madden NFL 92 listed him at a calculated 59 for the 1991 season, when he went 9-6 before Todd Marinovich replaced him. Madden NFL 94 gave him a calculated 49 for 1993, his one season in Cincinnati. He last played in 1994 with Arizona, finishing with 20,063 passing yards and 114 touchdowns.
