Keith Sims: three Pro Bowls at guard for Miami, 1993-1995

Keith Alexander Sims was born on June 17, 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland, grew up in the Millington section of Long Hill Township, New Jersey, and played at Watchung Hills Regional High School before going to Iowa State. Miami drafted him in the second round, 39th overall, in 1990. He started 13 of his 14 rookie games at left guard and made the PFWA All-Rookie Team; Madden NFL 92 carried a calculated 99 for the 1991 season.

Sims and left tackle Richmond Webb anchored the Dolphins line through the middle of the decade. He started all 16 games in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995, went to the Pro Bowl after each of the last three of those seasons and was a second-team All-Pro in 1994; Madden NFL 95 carried a calculated 96 for that year. Injuries cut his 1997 season to eight games, and Madden NFL 98 carried a calculated 66 for it.

He moved to Washington and started every game he played at left guard in 1999 and 2000, twelve and thirteen respectively; Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 81 for 2000. Sims finished with 142 games and 133 starts. He entered the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Dolphins Walk of Fame in 2013.

How to read these: Each row is the player’s rating in that year’s Madden, listed by the NFL season it covers (Madden NFL 2001 = the 2000 season). Madden sets its ratings before the season is played, so they reflect the previous season’s performance - a player’s breakout year tends to show up as a jump in the following year’s game.
About the starred rows*: Several early Madden releases rated players on a 1-15 scale, as printed in the game manuals, rather than the modern 0-99. We store those ratings converted to 0-99 (each manual point is about 6.6) so you can compare players across eras at a glance - use the 0-99 / 1-15 toggle above the table to see the original numbers on those seasons. EA didn’t publish an overall rating in those games, so the OVR* values for those years are our own calculation, the average of the player’s two best ratings.
Note: Some Madden releases tracked fewer attributes than others. Cells shown as - were not published by EA that year.
