Draft Profile: Bio
Joe Brunner was the consensus top player in Wisconsin in the 2022 class, a four-star lineman from Whitefish Bay High School who won the Joe Thomas Award. He played basketball and ran track too, and chose Wisconsin over Notre Dame, Ohio State and LSU.Brunner redshirted in 2022, played mostly on special teams in 2023, then started 12 games at left guard in each of the next two seasons. He did not allow a sack in 2025 and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten pick. His brother, Tommy, was also an offensive lineman at Wisconsin.
Brunner transferred to Indiana for his fifth season. After working at right tackle in August camp, Brunner settled in at right guard and has started every game there for the Hoosiers. He gave up two pressures in 72 snaps against Ohio State and has not allowed a sack.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- No sacks allowed this season or in 2025
- Experience at both guard spots after 24 starts on the left side at Wisconsin
- Held up against Ohio State's front, giving up two pressures in 72 snaps
- Good athlete for a guard, comfortable on pulls and climbs
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Penalties were a problem in 2024, with seven flags
- Run blocking is functional rather than forceful at the point
- Minnesota got two pressures on him and drew a flag
- Moved to the right side this season after two years at left guard
- Has not played tackle in college despite camp work there in August
Scouting Report: Summary
Brunner is a smart, steady guard who has started for three seasons in the Big Ten. He moves his feet well, sets with good balance in pass protection and has not allowed a sack in two seasons, including a solid afternoon against Ohio State. However, his run blocking is functional rather than forceful, and penalties were an issue in 2024. He is in his first season on the right side, and Minnesota found ways to pressure him.
Overall, Brunner is a reliable, experienced interior lineman who protects the passer well. He projects as a priority free agent backup guard with the movement skills to fit a zone scheme.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
