Jalen Brooks took the long way, from Division II Wingate to South Carolina to the seventh round in 2023, about as far down the draft as a player can go and still be picked. Dallas took the flier, and he did what late-round receivers must, made the roster on special teams and hoped for a few offensive snaps.

The Madden card is honest about the modest station. It climbed gently from a 65 to a 67 peak in Madden NFL 26, the grade of a reserve receiver with limited touches, a couple dozen catches across his early seasons. The number never spiked because the role never grew past depth, the small, slow climb of a player scratching out a place on the bottom of the receiving corps.
