Brock Purdy was born on December 27, 1999, in Queen Creek, Arizona, and played college football at Iowa State. The San Francisco 49ers took him with the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 draft, making him that year's Mr. Irrelevant. He began his rookie season third on the depth chart behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. After Garoppolo injured his foot in Week 13, Purdy started the last five regular-season games and won all five. Madden NFL 23 listed him at 59 for the 2022 season.
Purdy tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow in the NFC Championship Game on January 29, 2023. He returned to start 16 games in 2023, led the NFL in passer rating at 113.0, set the 49ers' single-season passing yards record and was selected to the Pro Bowl.
