Anthony Sherman was born on December 11, 1988 and grew up in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, where he was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2006. He played fullback at Connecticut and was a team captain in his junior and senior seasons. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the fifth round, 136th overall, in 2011, and he caught eight passes for 72 yards as a rookie.

Arizona traded him to Kansas City for cornerback Javier Arenas on May 1, 2013, and he caught a touchdown pass from Alex Smith against Cleveland that October. Madden NFL 15 rated him 90 for the 2014 season, and Madden NFL 16 rated him 95 for 2015.

He scored his first NFL rushing touchdown at Denver on December 31, 2017, a season Madden NFL 18 rated him 70. He caught a 36-yard touchdown in the 2018 opener against the Chargers, was voted to the Pro Bowl after that season and was rated 75 in Madden NFL 19. He blocked for Damien Williams on the 38-yard touchdown run that decided Super Bowl LIV in February 2020. Sherman announced his retirement on March 4, 2021.
