Geoff Swaim Madden Career 2016-2023 - Peak 74 OVR

Geoff Swaim took the junior-college route to Texas, where he was almost entirely a blocker, barely a dozen catches in college, and Dallas still took him in the seventh round in 2015 on the strength of that blocking. He made his NFL career the same way, an in-line tight end who does the dirty work and catches a few when the defense forgets about him.

The Madden card is a modest, honest line. He opened at a 64, peaked at a 74 in Madden NFL 19 during his most productive Dallas season, a 26-catch 2018, and otherwise hovered in the 60s and low 70s. The number reflected exactly what he was, a blocking-first tight end whose receiving numbers never gave the rating a reason to climb, useful in ways the overall does not weight.

He turned that reliability into a well-traveled career, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Arizona and beyond, a career-high 31 catches in Tennessee one of his better years. Swaim is the archetype of the blocking tight end who lasts by being dependable and cheap, employable everywhere precisely because he asks for nothing.
