David Irving was born on August 18, 1993 in Compton, California, and grew up in San Jacinto. He played defensive line at Iowa State and missed the 2014 season after a dismissal from the team. Kansas City signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2015, and Dallas claimed him off the Chiefs practice squad that September.
He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for a three-forced-fumble game against Green Bay on October 16, 2016, and Madden NFL 17 rated him 67 for that season. A four-game suspension under the performance-enhancing drug policy opened his 2017, after which he recorded seven sacks in eight games before a concussion ended his year in December. Madden NFL 18 rated him 79 for 2017.
A second four-game suspension, this one under the substances of abuse policy, cost him the first month of 2018, and he played twice more before an ankle injury. Madden NFL 19 rated him 82 for that season. The NFL suspended him indefinitely on March 1, 2019, and days later he said he had quit football over the league's marijuana rules. Reinstated in October 2020, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders and played two games. Irving finished with 12.5 sacks and five forced fumbles in 39 NFL games.
