Jake Matthews: Texas A&M tackle, 12 seasons in Atlanta
Jake Matthews was born on February 11, 1992 in Houston, Texas, and played college football at Texas A&M, where he was a unanimous All-American and won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy in 2013. The Atlanta Falcons drafted him sixth overall in 2014. He suffered a high ankle sprain in his first NFL game and still started 15 of 16 games as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 15 rated 81.
Madden NFL 16 dropped him to 75 for 2015, the year Pro Football Focus named him one of the league's most improved players. He played every offensive snap of Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017, a 34-28 overtime loss to New England. He signed a five-year, $75 million extension in July 2018 and was named to the Pro Bowl on January 23, 2019 as a replacement for Trent Williams; Madden NFL 19 listed him at 81 for the 2018 season.
Matthews signed further extensions in March 2022 and March 2025. Madden NFL 25 put him at 84 for the 2024 season, by which point he had started 174 consecutive regular-season games at left tackle. Through the 2025 season he had appeared in 196 regular-season games and started every one of them, all for Atlanta. He is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews.
