Brady's blindside on two title teams, then football's richest lineman

Nate Solder went 17th overall to New England in 2011, a consensus All-American tackle out of Colorado, and by 2012 he had taken over Matt Light's left tackle post protecting Tom Brady. He won two rings there, Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI, and started in the Super Bowl LII loss to Philadelphia. In 2018 the Giants made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the game on a four-year, $62 million deal.

He carried more than football. Solder was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2015 and kept playing, and his young son battled cancer as well. He opted out of the 2020 season over COVID-19 concerns and retired after his contract voided in 2022, finishing with 143 starts. Madden's read followed the New England rise, moving him to a 91 in the 2014 edition, his highest mark, before the number faded through the Giants years to 70 by the 2021 game.
