Howie's son who gave away a paycheck and won two rings

Chris Long grew up watching his father Howie bull his way into Canton as a Raiders defensive end, then carved a different path to the same position. Virginia produced him, and St. Louis made him the second overall pick in 2008. His best statistical year came in 2011, when he racked up 13 sacks for the Rams on his way to 70 for his career.

Winning eluded him in St. Louis, so he chased it. He signed with New England and won Super Bowl LI in the 2016 season, then moved to Philadelphia and won Super Bowl LII the very next year, back-to-back titles with two franchises. Off the field he became something rarer. In 2017 he donated his entire season's salary, using early checks to fund scholarships in his hometown of Charlottesville and the rest for clean-water work through his foundation. The NFL named him Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2018.

His rating reflected the arc. Long debuted at 84 in the 2008 edition, slid to 75 by Madden 2010, then surged to a career-high 91 in the 2012 game after that 13-sack season.
