A 6-foot-4 target who made Brett Favre look prophetic in 2009
Sidney Rice left South Carolina after two seasons having broken Sterling Sharpe's school touchdown record, and Minnesota took him 44th overall in 2007. His defining year came in 2009, when Brett Favre arrived and Rice turned into a problem for every defensive coordinator in the league, catching 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns and earning a Pro Bowl trip. In the divisional playoff against Dallas he went for 141 yards and three scores, a high-point catch specialist finally given a quarterback who trusted the throw into traffic.
Madden rewarded that breakout with its top grade for him, a 90 in the 2010 edition, a huge jump from the 71 he carried the year before. He signed a rich deal in Seattle in 2011, and though his body kept failing him, he was a Super Bowl XLVIII champion when the Seahawks battered Denver 43-8. A torn ACL ended his 2013 season, and mounting concussions pushed him to retire in 2014 at just 27.
