The Vikings' 13-year blocking tight end and lead blocker
Jim Kleinsasser was a tight end on the depth chart and a sixth offensive lineman in practice, a blocker first who happened to wear an eligible number. Minnesota drafted the North Dakota product in the second round in 1999, 44th overall, and he never played anywhere else, spending all 13 seasons as a Viking.
His hands mattered less than his shoulders. Kleinsasser's blocking helped clear the way for seven of the top eight single-season rushing marks in franchise history, including Adrian Peterson's 1,760 yards in 2008. He piled up 119 starts, missing significant time only in 2004 with a knee injury, and reached the College Football Hall of Fame's 2025 class.
Madden rewarded the blocking. He sat at 76 in the 2000 edition, climbed to a peak 92 across the 2004 and 2005 games during his prime as a run-blocking anchor, then eased down through his final Vikings seasons.
