Tamerlane Fizel Kennedy Jr. was born on February 12, 1971 in York, Pennsylvania and grew up in southeast San Diego. At Washington he won the Morris Trophy in 1991 and 1992, started three consecutive Rose Bowls, and was a unanimous All-American as a senior. Atlanta drafted him ninth overall in 1993, and he started all 16 games at left guard as a rookie, a season Madden NFL 94 put him at a calculated 72.

He lost the guard job in 1994 to free agent Dave Richards and started four games in 1995. Atlanta traded him to Oakland for a fifth-round pick, and Madden NFL 97 rated him 58 for 1996, his first year at right tackle. Madden NFL 2001 rated him 88 for the 2000 season, the first of three consecutive Pro Bowl years.

Kennedy was a second-team All-Pro in 2001 and a first-team All-Pro in 2002, when Oakland lost Super Bowl XXXVII to Tampa Bay; Madden NFL 03 rated him 95 for that season. A torn triceps ended his 2003 season a game early. He retired in 2004 after 169 games and 141 starts, and a 2005 comeback with Dallas ended when he failed the team physical. Kennedy was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2023.
