The Jaguars cashed the board's mistake on Bowen: B. When a board-topper like Peyton Bowen slides to slot 56, you do not overthink it, and the Jaguars did not.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Peyton Bowen
Somehow Peyton Bowen was still sitting there in pick 56, and they pounced on premier safety value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick81
Rnd3
Chris Marshall
Chris Marshall at pick No. 81 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Payton Pierce
The board had Payton Pierce higher than slot 88, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zach Lutmer
They jumped the gun on Zach Lutmer, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124
Rnd4
James Smith
James Smith in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick162
Rnd5
Kayin Lee
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kayin Lee in No. 162. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick164
Rnd5
Eric Singleton Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Singleton Jr. at the 164th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick233
Rnd7
Austin Novosad
They did well to land Austin Novosad in the 233rd pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jahiem White
Nothing to complain about; Jahiem White went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
